RanaEngine Release Candidate 1:
A Private AI Cluster Directly from the Browser

The Rana Team has been working around the clock to ship the first release candidate of RanaEngine, and we are proud to finally be able to offer it to the world. The latest improvements include:

  • A completely reconfigured setup and onboarding experience, to help set intelligent defaults based on hardware and software compatibility
  • Automatic GPU benchmarking for comparing the relative computing strength of various GPUs automatically
  • Greatly improved AI and machine learning job scheduling across compute clusters
  • Greatly improved CPU and WebAssembly job functionality for automatic utility functions
  • Improved API bridge support
  • Updated and streamlined machine learning models across all categories
  • Greatly improved stability and bug fixes

Unfortunately due to recent changes by Apple, Safari-based browsers will not be able to execute AI jobs locally at the moment, but may still connect to RanaEngine clusters for data sharing, social functions, and dispatching jobs remotely without issue. Our team will continue to test the stability of all major browsing environments, but will continue to require WebGPU functionality enabled as a baseline before unlocking AI compute capabilities on local nodes. For best results, we recommend using Chromium-based browsers such as Brave Browser, Chrome, Edge, and similar browsers with cutting-edge AI features unlocked by default.

The Rana ecosystem now supports all of the following major features, creating a unique offering designed to democratize AI capabilities for the world as we build the future together:

  • Large-Language Models (LLMs) including support for reasoning models such as DeepSeek
  • Multi-option Chat tree discussions allowing many different pathways of conversation to be explored simultaneously
  • Text-to-Image and Image-to-Image AI creation features with style presets
  • Ollama/ChatGPT Compatible APIs for Text and Image generation using RanaBridge
  • Cloud API support for Netlord-tier subscribers
  • Advanced content and license management for both AI creations and manual imports
  • Free forever for non-commercial use

Why Rana?

From the very beginning, the Rana ecosystem has been designed to protect end-user data privacy and keep data out of the cloud and on end-user devices. As a local-first web application, there is no need to upload your data to the cloud or trust 3rd-parties to keep your data private. Modern computers, even portable devices, contain enough storage, compute power, and have fast enough Internet connectivity that user data can once-again be stored on-device and accessed from anywhere, securely through encrypted tunnels and without extravagant hosting costs for web application developers.

Modern computing devices offer extremely powerful AI functions derived from open standard GPU and gaming capabilities, unlocking machine learning applications on devices you already own, without needing to reserve expensive time on shared cloud GPUs, waiting on hardware shortages due to limited global supply lines, and without depending on expensive proprietary hardware features from single vendors.

RanaEngine runs locally in modern web browsing environments, safely away from all other users’ data, and without the capability of reading, training, or exposing end-user data inappropriately. Not only is Rana unable to read, access, or disclose end-user data, it literally cannot be use for machine learning model training, advertising, or similar purposes, unlike almost all AI-enabled cloud offerings today.

Additionally, AI agents and programs are still in their infancy and may contain unknown security issues, so by running AI in a web browser, such programs are safely sandboxed away from the rest of a user’s computing environment, and only have access to what data is explicitly shared and uploaded to RanaEngine, instead of the entire contents of a cloud storage drive or local hard disk.

The promise of the Internet was always to bring humanity together, but too often it has driven us apart because it did not respect the needs of different users, communities, and cultures. The Rana ecosystem has been designed from the beginning to allow both humans and machines to work together in common cause, making it easy to set your own personal preferences for content and interactions, instead of relying on centralized moderation or one-size-fits-all rules that may fit specific communities but fail to scale across communities as populations grow. The Rana ecosystem is big enough for everyone, and everyone should be in control of their own experiences; technology should unlock our humanity, not suppress it.

Try Rana Today

Here is how to get started with Rana for free:

  1. Launch the RanaEngine Web App and build your AI cluster from desktop devices, with mobile devices acting as non-worker nodes in the cluster.
  2. Create a Rana.ai account to unlock additional social features or purchase a commercial subscription to unlock commercial licensing and additional features.
  3. Install Rana4Discord to connect your Rana cluster directly to Discord, for unlimited, free image generation, memes, and a whole lot more.
  4. Connect to RanaBridge for a local developer API, or purchase cloud API access through our Netlord-tier subscription.
